Benjamin and Obadiah Mead papers, 1751-1877.

Primarily family and business correspondence and financial records of several generations of a Greenwich, Connecticut, family. The bulk of the papers relate to Obadiah Mead and include his expenses while attending North Greenwich Academy, letters from Obadiah M. Knapp and Alexander Henderson who were soldiers during the Civil War, letters from missionary Amos Starr Cooke in Hawaii, political correspondence, and records related to the North Greenwich Congregational Church and the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions(ABCFM). Other family members represented in the collection are Benjamin Mead, Ruth Hebbard Mead, Solomon Mead, Mary Ann Mead Sullivan, Ralph Mead, Brockholst Mead, Mary (Polly) Mead Reed, and Alla Mead. Also includes Greenwich town records such as tax lists and highway surveys conducted by Obadiah. Of particular note are Obadiah's notes on his and Ruth's illness and Ruth's eventual death, and George Sullivan's detailed description of the death of Mary Ann Mead Sullivan.
